THE PLAYBOY SERIES

'Let's talk about sex, baby.'

This series was a re-imagining of vintage Playboy magazines from the 60s and 70s. I spent a few months sourcing them from all over the world at the request of a private buyer. These covers came from antique shops in New Orleans, vintage Bookstores in Paris + New York, garage sales and speciality suppliers down under. All so we could talk about sex, baby.

Playboy is a huge pop culture phenomenon that people either love or hate (or love to hate). Personally I’m a fan. And I was busting at the seams to see how you guys interpreted my very femme take on them.

I picked several covers and re-worked them with a slightly more femme gaze. Each cover's florals have been positioned in a way to make the reader question the original intent of the image. In some cases, I substituted the original model poses with one of my own Bloom Girl images. For other covers, I flower-bombed the masculine intention. Flowers - the eternal symbol for femininity- now poke out of bikini lines, fill Hef’s empty rabbit iconography up + obscure the women's identities. I like to think that the end result repositions the women’s sexuality as a strength, rather than a burden.

This series was commissioned by a private buyer, and I only ever released a small handful (3) to the public for sale. It is probably my most exclusive series.

I hope you enjoy my re-interpretation of these old frames.
